It’s fantastic how we all affect one another. I’m editing an herb workshop presented by Herbalist/ Author, Brigitte Mars. I have learned so much powerful natural healing wisdom!

…Soaking in a rosemary tea bath is great for arthritis, eating marigold flower petals can improve eye sight…and on and on. It’s so inspiring to learn how Earth provides for us in innumerable ways. The power and design of plants is absolutely blissful Babylonian type stuff. We really do live in the land of Babylon. I’ll keep you posted on the release of the Holistic Herb Workshop.

As the more of us learn how plants are our medicine, the pollution, death and illness caused by pharmaceuticals will be lightened. To think the answer is in a synthetically composed pill is to deny the greatness of our body’s ability to heal itself when it’s in relationship with Mother Nature. Isn’t that profound symbolism? We really are completely supported and provided for by our earth mother. Allow yourself to feel that support and those bountiful provisions.

Food-As-Medicine recipe of the week.

Chia seed Breakfast, Snack or Dessert. The kids will love this too.

¼ cup chia seeds per person (buy in bulk with reusable GrainSac)

¾ cup water for every ¼ cup of seeds

½ cup strawberries, or blueberries or peaches

¼ cup walnuts (optional)

1 Tbsp raw honey or pure maple syrup (optional)

Simply mix together the chia seeds and water and let stand for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. If it’s too thick, add water. Stir in fruit of choice, add walnuts if you desire and raw honey or maple syrup.

This is like eating oatmeal, but much healthier. This is a living meal, very high in enzymes, vitamins, minerals and amino acids, whereas oatmeal is cooked, therefore doesn’t offer nearly as much nutrition.

Chia seeds are the richest vegetables source for the essential omega-3 fatty acid. It has approximately three to ten times the oil concentrations of most grains and two times the protein concentrations of other grains. So this is a great protein for the morning! These oils, unsaturated fatty acids, are the essential oils your body needs to help emulsify and absorb the fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, & K. Unsaturated fatty acids are important for respiration of vital organs and make it easier for oxygen to be transported by the blood stream to all cells, tissues, and organs. They also help maintain resilience and lubrication of all cells.

According to the American Heart Association, Omega-3 fatty acids can normalize blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels, while helping promote healthy heart and blood vessels. So those with high cholesterol, go for the chia seeds daily.

Chia is familiar to most of us as a seed used for the novelty Chia Pet™, the clay animals with sprouted Chia seeds covering their bodies. Little is known, however, of the seeds tremendous nutritional value and medicinal properties.

With six times more calcium than milk, and with greater amounts of high-quality protein then soy, Chia strengthens muscles and bones.

Chia´s high fiber content and its ability to reduce blood sugar levels after meals inhibits the appetite, thus making it the perfect food for healthy, effective weight loss.

The most important antioxidants contained in Chia seeds are chlorgenic acid, caffeic acid, and coumaric acid. These are antioxidants that play a major role in cancer prevention. Fourteen hundred American’s are dying of cancer every day. In the prestigious Advances in Cancer Research, they conclude, “At present, we have overwhelming evidence that none of the risk factors for cancer are more significant than diet and nutrition.” So if you or someone you know has cancer, eat chia seeds daily. I make chia seed crackers in my dehydrator. There are lots of ways to enjoy them.

Intake of chia seeds decreases cardiovascular risk, which is a simple solution in this high-risk culture. A diet containing Chia seeds significantly lowers blood pressure (9.6 mm Hg). Chronic inflammation and coagulation indexes have also proven to be significantly lowered from eating chia seeds.

Intake of Chia prolongs the absorption of sugar in the bowels, resulting in improvement of insulin sensitivity and helping in the prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Food for thought…Research has revealed that more than two thirds of all deaths in the United States are diet related.

For centuries, this tiny little seed was used as a staple food by the Indians of the southwest and Mexico. The Indians would eat as little as a teaspoon full when going on a 24hr. forced march. Its use as a high-energy endurance food has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs. It was said the Aztec warriors subsisted on the Chia seed during the conquests. It has been written that Indians running from the Colorado River to the California coast to trade turquoise for seashells would only bring the Chia seed for their nourishment. That’s a fun fact isn’t it?

What a different life we lead now-a-days. However, our bodies still require the real nutrition chia seeds provide.
