2 RED Green Diet Tonics


Two RED Green Diet tonics to keep your cheeks rosy this holiday season.

Apple, Beet, Ginger Juice

Simply blend 1 apple, 1 beet, ½ inch ginger root and 2 cups purified water.

This bright pink tonic satisfies and beautifies. Blended juices allow you to eat the fibrous part of the fruit and vegetable; juicers subtract that part from the juice. Blenders are easier to clean too, YAH for that.

Pomegranate Smoothie

1 pomegranate
1 banana
2-3 cups water
½ cayenne pepper (optional)

Cut pomegranate in half and place cut side down in bowl of purified water. Squeeze the seeds out by pressing the rind like you would a lemon. The seeds with the juice will sink and the whitish fleshy material will float. After you’ve successfully freed the seeds, skim your hand over the top of the water to remove any part of the flesh or rind. Place discarded fruit remains in kitchen compost pot or use them as a facial toner and then add it into the compost. Now you’re left with the seeds (they have the juice) and water. Pour this into the blender and add a banana and ½ cayenne pepper (optional). Blend and enjoy.

I find the more I enjoy whole living foods, the simpler they have to be. I don’t put 6 ingredients in a morning smoothie anymore. I’ve found that consuming 1 entire pomegranate, a banana and 3 cups of water will satisfy me for hours. Feel free to add a tbsp of flax seed oil or hemp seed oil. This is a good way to start the day. I add the chili or cayenne pepper sometimes because it adds a host of nutritional dynamics. Try it both ways.

Pomegranates are said to help keep woman fertile. If we let nature show us how it serves us, we see that a pomegranate is very much like a uterus, with two ovaries inside full of seeds. I read that every pomegranate has exactly 840 seeds. If that’s true, that is astounding to me.

Making a fresh juice is far better for you than buying pomegranate juice in the store, unless you’re buying a raw, un-pasteurized juice from a juice bar. It’s less expensive too. 3 large pomegranates are probably around $3.50 and will make you 3 large fresh juices. Look for pomegranates at your farmers markets, or on trees in your neighborhood. :) Pomegranate trees are everywhere in L.A. Make this smoothie 2 or 3 times a week for breakfast, lunch, dessert or snack.
